Development

I possess extensive experience with fund development strategies that are necessary to meet the fiscal needs of an organization.  Furthermore, I understand how marketing and communications help to enhance and maximize development's efforts in reaching financial goals.

I have an entrepreneurial thinking style that allows for sound decision-making in developing annual strategic financial goals and managing the overall development process and have executed on grants and other fundraising initiatives that have brought in over $10 million for the organizations in which I've been employed.

I’ve created and developed reporting and tracking systems that help to facilitate and grow earned and contributed income, overseen donor management databases and implemented new management systems in organizations. I’ve developed, maintained and executed grants calendars to ensure timely reporting and deadline execution.

I’m a take-charge leader in an organization and have led development teams toward institutional goals as well as raising capital and operating funds for individual projects, and have written business plans that have secured capital for personal endeavors like Campus Video and the North Beach Jazz Festival Store & Gallery. I have initiated and developed relationships with dozens of individual, institutional and corporate funders, from the Annie E. Casey Foundation to the Zellerbach Family Foundation, from AT&T to Wells Fargo and many more.

Case Study

Better communications with constituencies lead to better results and more effective ways of working. While at First Graduate, during the time when I also took over the Director of Development duties, I discovered inefficiencies in our data systems. The program side of the organization used a different data collection system than the development side, which created certain difficulties in grant reporting and writing, as program staff would be needed to complete certain elements of a grant.

I looked for a remedy and decided to write for a service grant to the Taproot Foundation. Upon receiving the grant, we worked to migrate all of our data to a Salesforce cloud-based system. This allowed for better segmentation and e-communication integration, easier contact with any of the organization’s constituencies and quicker access to critical data that continues to make for better, more efficient grant writing as well as other benefits associated with staff having better access to data.
